Francesca Serrazanetti, PhD in Architecture, has been teaching and conducting research at the Politecnico di Milano since 2011, where she is currently a Research Fellow, after previously holding a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship for the project UAH! Unconventional Affordable Housing. Her work is driven by a strong editorial commitment, conceiving writing and criticism as tools of research.
Her research focuses on contemporary dwelling, with particular attention to its less conventional forms. She also investigates the relationship between the permanence of architecture and its ephemeral uses, creative processes, and the interplay between performing arts, architecture, and the city, adopting an ethnographic approach to the study of everyday spaces.
Since 2018 she has been collaborating with the journal Casabella, of which she is an editor. She is co-founder and co-editor-in-chief of the quarterly journal Stratagemmi, devoted to theatre studies, and of the cultural association Prospettive Teatrali.
Her publications include Architetture in scena. Esporre in assenza, esporre in presenza (Maggioli, 2015), Elementarismo moderno (Electa, 2022), Architectural Affordances – Topologies of Umbau (with A. Lechner, G. Postiglione and M. Gold, Thymos Books, 2025), and Unconventional Affordable Housing. Projects, Practices, Policies (with M. F. Grassi, V. Novak, C. Wolfgring, Mimesis, 2025).
She has also directed the book series Inspiration and Process in Architecture (Moleskine Editions), editing several monographs. Alongside her academic work, she has collaborated with architecture firms, publishers, and cultural institutions such as FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano (2009–2015), La Biennale di Venezia (2014), and La Triennale di Milano (2016), working on editorial and exhibition projects.
